HERTFORDSHIRE, BEDFORDSHIRE & NORTH LONDON
Air conditioning installation in Kings Langley, Chipperfield, Bedmond and Hunton Bridge by our own F-Gas certified engineers. Every system heats as well as cools, the outdoor unit position is checked against the council’s rules before we quote, and most homes pay 0% VAT until 31 March 2027. Call 01462 506 374.

Less than most people expect. A typical wall unit costs about 11p an hour to cool one room and about 17p an hour to heat it. Put in your own electricity rate and see what it would cost you.
AIR CONDITIONING INSTALLATION IN KINGS LANGLEY
The indoor unit is the simple part. What takes thought is the outdoor unit: where it sits, how it looks from the road, and whose rules it answers to. Most of Kings Langley and all of Chipperfield are in Dacorum, which has no guidance on domestic air conditioning that we could find. The part east of the Gade, with Abbots Langley, Bedmond and Hunton Bridge, is reported to be in Three Rivers.
Three Rivers’ April 2026 heat pump checklist says that in a conservation area “The heat pump must not be visible from the public highway”, and that listed buildings need planning permission and listed building consent. It does not cover air conditioning as such, so we treat it as the council’s likely starting point.
The heat pump permitted development rules exclude units used only for cooling. Ours heat too, so those are the rules we work to. They do not reach a listed building, and flats generally need permission.
Size. An outdoor unit of up to 1.5 cubic metres on a house.
Number. Two units on a detached house. On a semi or terrace only the first unit counts as permitted development.
Roofs. Not on a pitched roof. On a flat roof, at least 1 metre in from the edge.
Walls facing a road. Outside a conservation area, not above ground floor on a wall that fronts a highway.
Conservation areas. Not on a wall or roof facing a road, and no closer to the road than the house itself.
Standards. The installation must meet MCS 020a, the only scheme permitted for this since 28 May 2026.
Cooling-only units. The housing ministry’s blog of 25 June 2026 says that in most cases permission is not needed for air conditioning on a small home that would not materially change how the building looks from outside, and that homeowners should check with their council. We make that check for you.
The conservation area and the palace site
The Kings Langley conservation area, designated in 1969 and amended in 1975, covers parts of the High Street, the old Palace and Priory area and the Common. The site of the royal palace is a scheduled monument, where permitted development rights do not apply. Here we look to the rear first, and ask Dacorum wherever a unit could be seen from the road.
Chipperfield
The 2011 appraisal already counts aerials, satellite dishes, alarm boxes and boiler flues as clutter, and an outdoor unit on a front wall would be read the same way. Around The Street and the Common we look for a rear wall or a low, screened spot in the garden.
Abbots Langley and Hunton Bridge. Both have Three Rivers conservation areas. In Abbots Langley’s, permission is already needed for satellite dishes, dormer windows and other roof alterations, so we expect the council to look closely at anything new on a front elevation there too.
A single room in a house outside a conservation area can usually be priced online in a few minutes. Listed houses, conservation area addresses, flats and multi room systems are better seen first.
Pick the room and its size, say where the outdoor unit could go, choose a unit, and the fixed figure appears on screen.
For the High Street, Chipperfield, listed houses, flats and several rooms. We check the wall, the pipe run and the council, then fix the price.
Home offices. The parish area profile counts 22% of economically active residents as self-employed, against 16% across Dacorum, and a small room with a computer warms up fast.
Bedrooms near the railway or the M25. With the West Coast Main Line along the valley floor and the motorway just south of the village, an open window at night is not always the answer.
Loft rooms and rear extensions. Little thermal mass, plenty of glass or roof, and a room that is still warm at midnight.
Flats by the canal. Flats generally need planning permission, and a conversion like the old Ovaltine factory has a managing agent to agree it with.
If shading or better ventilation would fix the problem for less, we will say so at the survey.
From £2,420 for one room, £4,310 for two and £6,150 for three, fitted, with most homes paying 0% VAT until 31 March 2027. Around Kings Langley the likely extras are a longer pipe run to reach a rear wall, a planning application where the address calls for one, or a bay suspension at £31.25 a day on a Dacorum street. The survey prices each one, and the fixed quote states the VAT rate.
We fit Fujitsu and Panasonic wall mounted and multi split systems, chosen for a low sound rating as well as output. Outdoor units go on anti vibration mounts, away from bedroom windows where there is a choice, and the pipework runs in trunking matched to the wall.
Because we are plumbers too, the condensate drain is planned rather than left to a hidden pump. Refrigerant work needs F-Gas certified engineers and a registered company, and ours are, under REFCOM REF1024550. Each system is pressure tested, evacuated and commissioned to the manufacturer’s procedure, which keeps the warranty valid.

Often not, but it depends on the address. Our systems heat as well as cool, so the heat pump permitted development rules are the starting point, and those are tighter in a conservation area and do not cover a listed building or a scheduled monument site. Flats generally need permission. Dacorum has no specific guidance on domestic air conditioning, so for High Street, Common and Chipperfield addresses we check with the council before we quote.
Those are reported to be in Three Rivers. Its April 2026 heat pump checklist says a unit in a conservation area must not be visible from the public highway, and that a listed building needs planning permission and listed building consent. We apply the same test to air conditioning there.
From £2,420 for one room, £4,310 for two and £6,150 for three, fitted, with most homes paying 0% VAT until 31 March 2027. Anything beyond a standard install, such as a longer pipe run or a planning application, is added after the survey and shown separately on a fixed quote.
An air to air heat pump installed in a home counts as an energy saving material under HMRC Notice 708/6, which is zero rated until 31 March 2027. From April 2027 the relief is due to drop to 5%, and installs at business premises are charged at the standard 20%. Your quote shows the rate.
Yes. Every unit we install is a reversible heat pump, so the loft room or home office that is too hot in July can be heated by the same unit in January.
