HERTFORDSHIRE, BEDFORDSHIRE & NORTH LONDON
Air conditioning for Rickmansworth, Croxley Green, Moor Park and Loudwater, fitted by our own F-Gas engineers. Systems that heat as well as cool, and outdoor units sited around the council’s rules and, on Moor Park, the estate company’s. Most homes pay 0% VAT until 31 March 2027. Call 01462 506 374.

Less than most people expect. A typical wall unit costs about 11p an hour to cool one room and about 17p an hour to heat it. Put in your own electricity rate and see what it would cost you.
AIR CONDITIONING INSTALLATION IN RICKMANSWORTH
Start with the rules. The national permitted development rights for heat pumps exclude units used solely for cooling. The systems we fit heat as well as cool, but a conservation area narrows those rights, a listed building has none, and a flat generally needs permission. MHCLG’s June 2026 guidance note says that in most cases permission is not needed for a small home “if it would not materially affect the appearance of the building from outside”, and that “there is no blanket rule”.
We have not found Three Rivers guidance written for domestic air conditioning, so we work from the national rules, the council’s conservation policy and, on the private estates, the company’s own conditions. That check is done for your address before we quote, and any application is part of the price.
Three Rivers has 22 conservation areas and 350 listed buildings and structures. These are the places around Rickmansworth where the outdoor unit gets the closest look.
Air conditioning in Moor Park
The estate company requires its approval for air conditioning. Its guidance: “Permission is generally granted if the units are mounted at ground level so that they are not visible from the road or from neighbouring properties”, and units “should be screened to lessen noise”. Planning from Three Rivers may also apply, and the company notes that unauthorised installations have been removed at the owner’s expense. The conservation area dates from 1995 and the park is Grade II* registered.
Air conditioning in Loudwater
A conservation area since 1998, laid out from 1922, with an Article 4 direction that takes away some permitted development rights from certain houses, including roof alterations and external cladding. The roads are private. A ground level unit at the rear, screened by planting, is the usual answer, with the estate and the council asked first.
The town centre and the listed buildings. The Rickmansworth conservation area includes 25 Grade II listed buildings, among them St Mary’s Church, Basing House, The Priory and The Bury. In a conservation area the permitted development rules keep a unit off any wall facing the road, and a listed building needs listed building consent. We tell you at survey which applies.
A single room in a semi in Mill End or Croxley Green, outside a conservation area, can usually be priced online in a few minutes. Moor Park, Loudwater, listed houses, flats and multi room systems are better surveyed.
Tell us the room, its size and where the outdoor unit could go, pick the unit, and see a fixed figure on screen.
For private estates, conservation areas, flats and several rooms. We check the wall, the noise and the rules, then fix the price.
Top floor flats. Over a third of homes in the Rickmansworth Town ward are purpose built flats. Heat rises through the building, and the lease and the freeholder come into the plan.
Loft rooms in Metro-land houses. Little thermal mass, a lot of roof, and warm long after sunset.
Garden rooms and offices. Too hot in July, cold in January, and a split system handles both.
Bedrooms facing south or west. Comfortable for most of the year, too warm to sleep in for a few weeks of it.
If shading, ventilation or a fan would solve the problem for less, we say so at survey.
Ground level at the rear. Quiet, out of view, easy to service, and the position the Moor Park company favours.
Screened. A hedge, fence or slatted screen that hides the unit and softens its sound, with room left for air to move.
On anti vibration mounts. So the compressor does not carry through the wall to the room behind or next door.
A flat roof, carefully. On a rear extension, set well in from the edge and away from neighbours’ windows. Never on a pitched roof.
Condensate. Cooling pulls water from the air. As plumbers we run it to a proper drain under gravity wherever possible, rather than leaving a hidden pump to fail behind a wall.
From £2,420 for one room, £4,310 for two and £6,150 for three, fitted, with most homes paying 0% VAT until 31 March 2027. Around Rickmansworth the usual additions are a longer pipe run to reach a ground level position at the rear, screening, a planning application where the address needs one, or a bay suspension at £35.50 a day on a controlled street. The survey prices each one and fixes the total, with the VAT rate on the quote.
Where noise and screening matter, the sound rating of the outdoor unit comes first. We fit Fujitsu and Panasonic wall mounted and multi split systems, run pipework inside trunking chosen to suit the wall, and keep units away from bedroom windows on both sides of the fence.
Refrigerant work by law needs F-Gas certified engineers and a registered company. Ours are, under REFCOM REF1024550. Each system is pressure tested, evacuated and commissioned to the maker’s procedure, which keeps the warranty valid.

Often not, but it depends on the house. The national permitted development rights for heat pumps do not cover units used solely for cooling. Every system we fit heats as well as cools, but those rights are narrower in a conservation area, do not apply to a listed building, and a flat generally needs permission. We have not found Three Rivers guidance written for domestic air conditioning, so we check your address against the national rules before we quote.
Yes, with the estate company’s approval, which it requires for air conditioning units. Its guidance says permission is generally granted for units mounted at ground level, out of sight of the road and the neighbours, and screened to lessen noise. Planning from Three Rivers may be needed as well.
Loudwater is a conservation area, and an Article 4 direction removes some permitted development rights from certain properties there. The appraisal lists dishes, dormers, roof alterations, cladding and works to trees. We keep units off roofs and check your house against that list.
From £2,420 for one room, £4,310 for two and £6,150 for three, fitted, with most homes paying 0% VAT until 31 March 2027. A longer pipe run, a planning application or an access cost is priced as its own line after the survey, and the total is then fixed.
HMRC Notice 708/6 treats an air source heat pump installed in a home as an energy saving material, and an air to air system counts. The relief applies to residential supply and installation. Your quote states the rate that applies to your job.
Yes. Every unit we install is an air to air heat pump, so a loft room, a garden office or a cold end of the house can be heated from autumn to spring as well as cooled in summer.
