Why servicing matters on air conditioning
An air conditioning system that is not serviced does not usually fail outright. It quietly gets worse. Filters clog, airflow drops, the unit works harder for less cooling, and running costs climb before anyone notices anything is wrong.
The other reason is the warranty. Most manufacturers require documented annual servicing, and a claim can be refused without it. If your system is still in warranty, the service record is what protects it.

The signs you have left it too long
Weak airflow, a musty smell when the system starts, water dripping indoors, ice forming on the pipework, or the unit running constantly without reaching the set temperature. Ice and constant running in particular are worth acting on quickly, because they often point to low refrigerant, and running a system low on refrigerant is how compressors get damaged.
Refrigerant is not consumed
Worth knowing, because it gets sold wrongly. A sealed system does not use refrigerant up. If yours is low, it has leaked, and topping it up without finding the leak means paying to do it again. We will look for the leak.
How often
Once a year is right for most homes. Systems in constant use, or in dusty environments, benefit from more frequent filter attention between services, which you can often do yourself once we have shown you where they are.

Questions people ask about air conditioning
How much does air conditioning cost to install?
It depends on the number of rooms and where the outdoor unit can go, so we price every installation after a free survey and give you a fixed written quote. A single-room split system is the starting point; a multi-split serves several rooms from one outdoor unit. We install Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, LG and Samsung and there is no call-out fee in working hours.
Does air conditioning heat the house in winter?
Yes. The split systems we install are air-to-air heat pumps, so the same unit heats in winter and cools in summer. In heating mode a modern unit delivers around three to four units of heat for every unit of electricity, which makes it one of the cheapest ways to heat a single room, home office or extension.
Do I need planning permission for air conditioning?
Usually not. In England a domestic outdoor unit under 1.5 cubic metres (0.6 for a flat), not on a pitched roof and not on a front wall facing the road, falls within permitted development following the 2025 rule change. Listed buildings and conservation areas are the exceptions, and leaseholders need the freeholder's consent. We tell you at the survey if your property is one of the exceptions.
How much does air conditioning cost to run?
Less than most people expect. A typical single-room unit draws around 0.5 to 1 kW while running, so an evening of cooling costs a few tens of pence at current tariffs, and in heating mode it is usually cheaper per unit of heat than a plug-in electric heater. Keeping the filters clean and having the system serviced keeps it at that level.
Are you F-Gas registered?
Yes. Vantage is F-Gas certified through Refcom, registration REF1024550, which is a legal requirement for anyone installing or working on air conditioning refrigerant circuits. Every installation is commissioned, leak-tested and comes with a 12 month labour guarantee on top of the manufacturer warranty.
