Baxi E10 Fault Code: External Probe Fault
Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire & Cambridgeshire
E10 on a Baxi is an external probe fault. The outdoor sensor used for weather compensation is not giving a usable reading.
One of the least disruptive faults on the list. In most cases the boiler carries on heating, just less efficiently.
What E10 actually means
Weather compensation uses an outdoor probe to match the flow temperature to the outside conditions, which saves gas and makes the house more comfortable.
If the probe fails, the boiler loses that function and flags it so you know.
What you can safely check yourself
If you know where the outdoor probe is, usually on a north facing wall, look at it. Damage, water ingress or a knock from a ladder are all common.
The wiring and probe need testing beyond a visual check.
When to stop, and why
If nothing obvious is wrong with it, it needs testing.
What causes it beyond the simple checks
A failed probe, water ingress into the probe or its connections, damaged cable, a poor terminal connection at the boiler, or a board input fault. Outdoor sensors live outdoors, so weather related failure is the norm.

Frequently asked questions
Will my heating still work with E10?
Usually yes. You lose weather compensation, which costs you a little in efficiency.
Is it worth fixing?
If you paid for weather compensation, yes. It is a genuine efficiency feature.
Could it be the cable rather than the probe?
Frequently. It gets tested rather than assumed.
