Baxi E110 Fault Code Explained

An E110 fault on a Baxi boiler means the overheat safety cut-out has operated. The boiler has run hotter than it should and shut down.
There is one check worth doing, and then it is engineer work.
What E110 actually means
A safety thermostat trips if water temperature climbs beyond a safe limit. Overheating almost always means heat is not being carried away, which points at circulation rather than the burner.
What you can safely check yourself
Check the pressure gauge. It should read 1 to 1.5 bar cold. If it is near zero, repressurise using the filling loop until it reaches 1.5 bar, then reset.
If it falls again within days, you have a leak. Stop topping it up and get it traced.
When to stop, and why
Do not keep resetting an overheat lockout. The cut-out operated for a reason. Repeatedly overriding a safety device while the circulation problem remains risks the heat exchanger, which is the most expensive part of the boiler.
What causes it beyond the simple checks
A failed or seized pump, sludge restricting flow, closed or stuck valves, a failed thermistor, or air locks. Where sludge is the cause a power flush addresses it properly.

In Baxi’s own words
Baxi’s published error-code list gives E110 as the boiler maximum temperature being exceeded for gradient, with a probable jammed pump or air in the circuit, or the safety thermostat sensor having tripped.
That is the useful part. A repeat E110 usually points at circulation rather than at the boiler itself, so a jammed pump, trapped air or sludge is where an engineer will start.
