Vaillant F32 Fault Code Explained
Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire & Cambridgeshire
An F32 fault on a Vaillant boiler indicates a problem with the fan or the signal the boiler receives from it.
The fan is part of the flue safety system, so this is not a fault to work around.
What F32 actually means
The fan clears combustion products out through the flue and draws in air for combustion. The boiler monitors its speed. If the fan is not running at the expected speed, or the boiler cannot read it, the appliance locks out rather than burning gas without a confirmed flue path.
What you can safely check yourself
Nothing on this one. There is no homeowner check that helps with F32, and the components involved are inside the appliance. This needs a Gas Safe engineer.
When to stop, and why
What causes it beyond the simple checks
A failed fan motor, worn bearings, a wiring or connector fault, a blocked or restricted flue, or a failed PCB output. In older appliances the fan is a normal wear item.

Can I fix an F32 myself?
No. It is inside a room-sealed appliance and is Gas Safe work.
Is it safe to leave the boiler off?
Yes, and that is what you should do until it is looked at.
Is a fan expensive?
It is a common wear part. An engineer will confirm whether it is the fan itself or the signal to it.

In Vaillant’s own words
Vaillant’s installation and maintenance instructions give F.32 as the fan frost protection function being active, with fan speed outside the tolerance values.
So the code is about fan speed specifically, not the fan simply failing to spin. A fan turning at the wrong speed will trigger it just as a stopped one will.
