Denny Cottages and the Victorian layer. Denny Cottages date from 1862, built in yellow brick with red trimmings, and the Methodist Chapel is from the same year. Standard Victorian terrace problems: a boiler that has ended up in a back kitchen, a long external condensate run to a gully, and no obvious sensible flue position.
Riverside Gardens, late 1960s. The first of the modern estates, and prime territory for 8mm and 10mm microbore and single feed indirect cylinders. Microbore silts up with magnetite, radiators go cold at the bottom, the system warms through slowly and the pump wears out early. A new boiler on that system will not cure any of it.
Wilmon Court and Ivel Close, 1980s. Early combis, more microbore, and gravity primaries that were never fully converted. This is where we most often find a system that has been half upgraded at some point and never finished properly.

Ground, water and where the boiler goes
The village sits on river gravel, with boulder clay over Gault in the arable ground to the east rising towards Topler’s Hill. The village centre is at about 35 metres and the ground climbs to over 70 metres out that way.
