HERTFORDSHIRE, BEDFORDSHIRE & CAMBRIDGESHIRE
When an Arlesey boiler stops, you want the fault found rather than guessed at. Our own Gas Safe engineers diagnose any make for a fixed fee and price the repair before a single part goes in.

No heating: a pump, motorised valve, thermostat or wiring fault
No hot water: a diverter valve or a scaled plate heat exchanger
Pressure dropping: a leak or a tired expansion vessel
Lockouts: ignition, flame sensing or flue faults
Kettling: scale building on the main heat exchanger
Frozen condensate: the outside pipe iced over in a hard frost
Water under the boiler: a relief valve, seal or internal joint
When you ring, give us the make, the model if you know it and any code on the display, so we can bring the likely parts on the van. If water is dripping from the boiler, switch it off at the spur and put a tray underneath.
Get a fixed price before we start
Call and talk to an engineer, or send us the details and we will come back to you with a price.
A boiler that restarts after a reset has not been mended. Whatever locked it out is still there, and it usually comes back at a worse moment.
Our engineers work through the appliance in order: gas supply, ignition, flame sensing, fan, pump, valves and controls, until the cause is proved. Only then do we tell you what needs replacing.
That is also why we sometimes report that the boiler itself is fine. A failed room thermostat or a stuck zone valve stops the heating just as surely, and costs far less to put right.
Boiler faults start with a Gas Safe diagnostic at a fixed £150 + VAT (£180 including VAT). It covers attending, diagnosing and any minor work needing no parts, with up to an hour on site.
Go ahead with the repair on that same visit and £70 of the diagnostic comes off the repair bill. Outside weekday hours, gas work is £225 + VAT for the first hour and then £75 + VAT per half hour, with the out of hours call-out on top, and you hear all of it before we leave. Every rate is on our pricing page.
That the suspect part has really failed, by testing it
Whether the fault has damaged anything else
That the part is still made and can be sourced
The condition of the heat exchanger and seals
System pressure and the state of the heating water
You then get one price for the repair. If something changes once the work is under way, the engineer stops and talks to you before carrying on.
We cannot give you a published hardness figure for Arlesey. The Arlesey Gate homes are supplied by mua Water within the Anglian Water region, and we have not been able to confirm the supplier or a figure for the older parts of town, so we will not quote one.
Anglian Water says homes in the East of England are likely to have hard water, and hard water leaves scale wherever it is heated. In a combi it narrows the plate heat exchanger, so the hot water turns lukewarm or surges. In the main heat exchanger it brings on kettling.
General building regulations guidance is that water above 200 mg/l should be treated before it feeds a combi. A scale reducer on the cold supply is a modest addition, and we look for one on every repair.
A fixed diagnostic price, all makes and models, and a straight answer on repair or replace.
In the oldest houses, heating has often been added in stages, sometimes around steel pipework left from a gravity system. A radiator that never warms may be narrowed pipe rather than a boiler fault, and we will tell you so rather than sell you a boiler.
Where homes were made from the former hospital buildings, the position of the boiler and flue was set by the conversion. Tell us where yours is and how to reach it, and we plan the visit around that.
A recent boiler may still be under its manufacturer guarantee. Dig out the paperwork before booking, because the manufacturer may need to be involved first, and we will tell you if so.
Most sealed systems sit at around 1 to 1.5 bar when cold. Topping up through the filling loop, as the manual shows, is a fine job for a householder.
Check the fused spur, the timer and that the thermostat is really calling for heat. A power cut often resets programmers without anyone noticing.
If the boiler locks out in freezing weather, pour warm, not boiling, water along the outside run of the white plastic pipe, then reset once.
Leave the casing alone. Work inside the boiler or on gas pipework is Gas Safe work by law, and you should ask to see the engineer’s Gas Safe ID card before they start.
We repair all makes and most faults are worth fixing. Where a heat exchanger has failed on an old boiler, parts are no longer made, or repairs keep coming round, we set the cost of repair beside the cost of replacement and leave the choice with you.
A new combi, system or regular boiler starts from £2,375 + VAT (£2,850 including VAT), with the old one removed and the warranty registered for you. Next day installation is available on most standard swaps, subject to survey. Most of the boilers we install are Vaillant or Ideal, with some Worcester Bosch. More on our Arlesey boiler installation page.
Our labour carries a 12 month guarantee. You get a clear account of what failed, what was replaced and anything else we noticed that you might want to plan for.
If the boiler has gone a while without a service, one can be added while the engineer is with you, for £50 + VAT (£60 including VAT) and about thirty minutes. See boiler servicing in Arlesey.
Should our workmanship let you down within that year, ring the same number and we come back to put it right.

We have not found a supplier’s published figure for the town, so we do not quote a number. Anglian Water describes hard water as likely across the East of England, and we check for scale on every visit.
That is kettling, usually scale on the main heat exchanger making water boil in spots. It is often repairable.
Commonly a scaled plate heat exchanger or a sticking diverter valve. We test to find out which before pricing anything.
Once or twice as the manual describes is fine. Repeated lockouts mean something is wrong and needs tracing.
All of them. We fit mostly Vaillant and Ideal, plus Worcester Bosch, but repairs are not limited to those.
Ask to see their Gas Safe ID card when they arrive. Our company registration number is 956889.
