HERTFORDSHIRE, BEDFORDSHIRE & CAMBRIDGESHIRE
Boiler down in Bedford? Our own Gas Safe engineers find the fault for a fixed £150 + VAT (£180 including VAT), and £70 of it comes off if the repair goes ahead on that visit.

Across the town, from Victorian terraces to houses at Wixams that are only a few years old, the complaints that bring us out are much the same.
No heating, or radiators only warm at the top
Heating works but no hot water from the combi
Pressure dropping, so the filling loop comes out every few days
Lockouts with a fault code on the display
Kettling, a rumble or bang as the burner fires
A frozen condensate pipe after a hard frost
A noisy pump that grinds or hums
Water dripping from under the boiler casing
Hot water that runs hot then cold at the tap
Each of these has a handful of likely causes, and the job is to prove which one before a part is fitted.

Call and talk to an engineer, or send us the details and we will come back to you with a price.
A reset clears the display. It does not fix whatever tripped the boiler, and a boiler that locks out again the next morning is telling you that. A proper repair starts from the fault code and the history, then tests the components that could produce it.
That means reading pressures, checking the fan, the gas valve, the ignition and the flame sensing, and looking at the condensate route and the pump. Only when the cause is proven do we talk about parts.
It sounds slower. In practice it is quicker and cheaper, because nobody is swapping components in the hope that the next one is the culprit, and you are not paying for parts the boiler never needed.
Every boiler fault visit is a Gas Safe diagnostic at £150 + VAT (£180 including VAT). That covers attending, diagnosing and any minor work that needs no parts, with up to one hour on site. Plenty of Bedford faults are sorted inside that hour.
If a part is needed and you agree to the repair on the same visit, £70 of the diagnostic comes off the repair bill. Evenings and weekends, gas work is £225 + VAT for the first hour and £75 + VAT per half hour, plus the £50 + VAT (£60 including VAT) call-out, all told to you first.
Make and model, age, the fault history and whether parts are still made. A boiler with a sound heat exchanger and one failed component is a different proposition from one with several parts on their way out.
Pipe sizes, the state of the heating water, the pump, valves and any cylinder. A boiler cutting out because sludge has blocked the circulation will not be cured by a new part in the boiler.
We check where the flue terminates and how the condensate drains away, because both can cause lockouts and both have to be right before we sign anything off.
We have no figure from the water company for Bedford itself, so we will not quote one. Anglian Water says water across its region is likely to be hard, and what we find inside local boilers fits that: scale on the hot water side and furred up heat exchangers.
On a combi, the first sign is usually hot water that fades or surges, because scale has narrowed the plate heat exchanger. A scaled plate heat exchanger can normally be cleaned or replaced on its own, without touching the rest of the boiler.
Building Regulations guidance is that hard water feeding a combi should be treated to slow scale, and some manufacturers expect it for their warranty. After a scale related repair we will tell you whether protection on the incoming main is worth adding.
A fixed diagnostic price, all makes and models, and a straight answer on repair or replace.
In the Victorian parts of town, and in the Georgian houses of the conservation area, heating has often been altered several times. A regular boiler with a cylinder can fail at a motorised valve, a cylinder thermostat or a pump just as easily as at the boiler, which is why the whole circuit gets tested.
Where a condensate pipe or flue has to be rerouted on a listed building, we tell you before work starts that consent may be needed, rather than leaving you to find out afterwards.
The pressure gauge, cold, against the figure in your manual
Power to the boiler, including the fused spur beside it
The programmer and thermostat, set to call for heat
That the gas hob or meter shows gas is reaching the house
In frost, the outside condensate pipe for ice, thawed with warm water
That is where do it yourself stops. Taking the casing off, touching the gas valve or working on the flue is gas work, and the law says only a Gas Safe registered engineer may do it.
We repair all makes, and our starting point is always to fix. We fit mostly Vaillant and Ideal, plus Worcester Bosch, but that has no bearing on what we will repair on your wall.
Replacement makes sense when a major part such as the heat exchanger has failed on an older boiler, when parts are no longer made, or when repairs are coming round every winter. You get both figures side by side. A new boiler swap starts from £2,375 + VAT (£2,850 including VAT), and our boiler installation in Bedford page covers it.
The engineer is our own employee, not a subcontractor, and carries a Gas Safe ID card. Ask to see it, check the photo and the categories of work, and you can look it up on the register. Our business registration is 956889.
Once the repair is done the boiler is run through heating and hot water before we leave. Our labour on it is guaranteed for 12 months, and if that fault reappears we come back to it.

Emergency response within the hour
Our average response to an emergency call is under an hour across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
A fixed £150 + VAT (£180 including VAT), covering attendance, diagnosis and minor work without parts, up to an hour on site. Go ahead with the repair on that visit and £70 comes off.
Then that is the whole bill, as long as no parts were needed. Many pressure, condensate and control faults are sorted that way.
We have no zone figure from the water company to quote. Anglian Water describes its region as likely to be hard, and scale inside local combis bears that out.
Once is reasonable. If it locks out again, write down the code and call us, because something is causing it.
Sometimes it is the pressure relief valve or the expansion vessel, and sometimes a leak elsewhere on the system. We find which before fitting anything.
Yes, all makes. We fit mostly Vaillant and Ideal, plus Worcester Bosch, but repair whatever you have.
When a major part fails on an older boiler, parts are no longer available, or faults keep recurring. You get both prices and make the call.
Their Gas Safe ID card shows a photo and the types of gas work they may do, and you can look it up on the register. Our business number is 956889.
Yes. Our labour carries a 12 month guarantee.
Usually a pressure relief valve discharging, a failed seal on a pump or valve, or a condensate leak. Turn the boiler off, catch the water and call us, since the casing should only come off for a Gas Safe engineer.
We repair boilers throughout MK40 to MK45, from the town centre, De Parys and Castle out to Goldington, Putnoe, Brickhill, Newnham, Queens Park, Kingsbrook and Kempston.
Great Denham on the western side and Wixams to the south are covered at the same fixed diagnostic price. For every other service we offer in town, see our Bedford page.
