HERTFORDSHIRE, BEDFORDSHIRE & CAMBRIDGESHIRE
Our own Gas Safe engineers repair boilers across Broxbourne. You pay a fixed fee to find the real fault, and you get the repair price before any work begins.

A pump, a diverter valve, a motorised valve or a control fault causes most of these. On a combi that heats the radiators but gives poor hot water, scale on the plate heat exchanger is the first thing to rule in or out.
Water is leaving the system somewhere: a weeping joint, a pressure relief valve letting by or an expansion vessel that has lost its charge. Topping up keeps it running but hides the cause.
A lockout that returns after every reset usually points to ignition, flame sensing, the fan or the flue. A boiler that rumbles and bangs as it heats is often boiling water against scaled surfaces or struggling with poor circulation.
In a hard frost the plastic pipe that carries condensate outside can freeze solid and shut the boiler down. Water dripping from the boiler case is different and needs the boiler turned off until it is looked at.

Call and talk to an engineer, or send us the details and we will come back to you with a price.
Resetting a boiler that has locked out might get it going again for a day, but it is not a repair. The fault that caused it is still there, and several resets in a row can make it harder to read.
Our engineers test before they replace. They check the history and fault codes, measure what the boiler is doing, and confirm the suspect part has failed. It is slower than swapping parts until the fault goes away, and much cheaper for you.
A Gas Safe diagnostic in Broxbourne is a fixed £150 + VAT (£180 including VAT). It covers attending, diagnosing and minor work that needs no parts, for up to one hour on site.
If you go ahead with the repair while the engineer is there, £70 of the diagnostic comes off it. If a part needs ordering, you have the diagnosis and a price before committing to anything.
Outside weekday hours, gas work is £225 + VAT for the first hour and £75 + VAT per half hour after, with the out of hours call-out added. All of that is confirmed before we set off, and the full list is on our pricing page.
Gas pressure at the appliance and how the burner lights
Fan, flue and combustion readings
System pressure and the expansion vessel charge
Pump, diverter and motorised valves
Programmer, thermostats, wiring and the fused spur
A fair number of calls that sound like a boiler fault turn out to be a thermostat that has stopped calling for heat or a timer knocked out of its setting. We tell you if that is all it was.
Broxbourne is generally listed in Thames Water’s supply area, and Thames describes the water across its region as hard. We did not have a Thames figure for EN10 itself, so we describe it as hard rather than put a number on it.
Hard water leaves scale where it is heated. In a combi that means the plate heat exchanger feeding the taps, which is why a shower drifting between hot and lukewarm is such a common complaint. On the main heat exchanger it shows as kettling and, left long enough, overheating lockouts.
The national guidance that sits alongside the Building Regulations treats 200 mg/l as the point where water feeding a combi should be softened or conditioned. Once your repair is finished, we will say whether a scale reducer on the cold main is worth adding.
A fixed diagnostic price, all makes and models, and a straight answer on repair or replace.
Check the pressure gauge against your boiler manual and top up through the filling loop if it has dropped. Make sure the fused spur is on, the programmer is in a heating period and the room thermostat is turned up. On a frosty morning, look at the condensate pipe where it leaves the wall.
A frozen condensate pipe can be thawed with warm, not boiling, water poured along it, followed by one reset. Beyond that, leave it. Taking the casing off or touching the gas valve, burner or flue is gas work, and by law only a Gas Safe registered engineer may do it.
We repair all makes, whoever fitted the boiler. When one part has failed on a boiler that is otherwise sound, repairing it is normally the right call, and we will say so.
When the heat exchanger is heavily scaled or corroded, parts for the model are hard to find, or the boiler is failing in a new place every winter, we set the repair cost beside the cost of replacing it and let you choose.
Replacement boilers start from £2,375 + VAT (£2,850 including VAT). We fit mostly Vaillant and Ideal, and Worcester Bosch as well, remove the old boiler and register the warranty for you. On most like-for-like swaps we can fit the next day once a survey has been done.
Anyone who works on a gas boiler must be on the Gas Safe Register. Ask to see the ID card at the door, check the photo matches the person and read the back to confirm it covers boilers.
Our engineers are directly employed by Vantage Plumbing and Heating Limited, based in Stevenage, and carry cards under our registration, 956889.
In the older buildings along the High Road and in the conservation areas, a repair occasionally means changing a flue or moving a condensate run. Where a change to the outside of a listed or protected building might need permission, we raise it before any work starts rather than after.
The engineer runs the boiler on heating and hot water, checks the pressure is stable and explains what was replaced and why. The labour is covered by a 12 month guarantee.
Anything else noticed along the way, such as a condensate run likely to freeze again or a boiler overdue a service, is pointed out and priced separately. A service can be added while we are already there for £50 + VAT (£60 including VAT).

It is hard, so scale builds over time, mostly on combi hot water parts and heat exchangers. Scale protection on the cold feed slows it down.
It keeps the boiler going for a while, but the water is escaping somewhere. Finding the leak or faulty valve early saves damage.
Yes. We repair all makes across EN10, whether or not we fitted the boiler.
Usually the outside condensate pipe has frozen. Pour warm water along it and reset the boiler once, and call us if it will not restart.
Every genuine gas engineer carries a Gas Safe photo card listing what they are qualified to work on. Ours work under registration 956889.
When the boiler is badly scaled, keeps failing in different places or needs a major part that is hard to get. We show you both costs.
Yes, the labour on our repairs carries a 12 month guarantee.
We repair boilers throughout Broxbourne and EN10, from the older houses along the High Street and High Road to Wormley, Turnford and Baas Hill.
Hoddesdon is covered too, and the same team works the whole district from our Stevenage base. To keep a repaired boiler in good order, see boiler servicing in Broxbourne.
