HERTFORDSHIRE, BEDFORDSHIRE & CAMBRIDGESHIRE
Our Gas Safe engineers repair boilers of every make across Kempston. The diagnostic is a fixed £150 + VAT (£180 including VAT), with £70 of it knocked off the repair if you go ahead on that visit.

Usually a diverter valve, pump, motorised valve or sensor. If the boiler fires but radiators stay cold, the fault is often outside the boiler itself.
Topping up and watching it fall again within days means water is escaping, or the expansion vessel has lost its charge.
Ignition and flame faults, blocked flues and, in hard frost, a frozen condensate pipe.
Kettling from scale in the heat exchanger, a pump on its way out, or air trapped in the system.
Get a fixed price before we start
Call and talk to an engineer, or send us the details and we will come back to you with a price.
Two boilers showing the same code can have different faults. We test before recommending any part, working through supply, ignition, sensing, fan, pump and controls until the cause is certain.
Before you get a price, we also check the part is available, that nothing else has been damaged and what state the heating water is in.
You then get one figure. If something changes once the work starts, we stop and tell you before carrying on.
Testing first also means you are never billed for components that turn out to have been perfectly sound.
For a fixed £150 + VAT (£180 including VAT), we attend, diagnose and carry out minor work needing no parts, up to an hour on site. Agree to the repair on the same visit and £70 of that fee is deducted from it.
Out of hours, gas work in Kempston is £225 + VAT for the first hour, then £75 + VAT per half hour, and the £50 + VAT (£60 including VAT) call-out is added. You will know this before an engineer sets off. Rates are listed on our pricing page.
Anglian Water supplies the town, and says homes in the East of England are likely to have hard water drawn from groundwater in chalk or limestone. We could not obtain a figure for Kempston from Anglian itself, and the third party numbers in circulation are estimates, so we do not quote one.
What matters for your boiler is that hard water leaves scale wherever it is heated. A combi’s plate heat exchanger collects it first, and hot water that wavers between warm and hot is the usual sign. Kettling, a rumble as water boils in scaled spots of the main heat exchanger, is the other.
Guidance issued with the building regulations puts the treatment threshold for a combi’s feed at 200 mg/l. If you know your postcode figure, we can tell you whether a scale reducer is worth fitting.
Terraces from the 1870s often had heating added in stages. The boiler may be newer than the pipework feeding it, so a repair can involve the circuit as well as the appliance.
Around the High Street, Church Walk, King William Road and Mill Lane, in the conservation area designated in 1975, flue and pipe routes have to follow what the building allows. We plan these before starting.
Heating has usually been upgraded more than once, and mixed generations of pipework and controls cause faults that look like boiler problems but are not.
Newer boilers fail less from wear. Pressure, controls and installation details account for more of the calls, and some boilers may still be under a manufacturer guarantee, so check the paperwork first.
If your boiler, pump or cylinder sits at the lowest point of a house near the Great Ouse, it is exposed if water gets in. Raising it, or making sure it can be isolated properly, is worth considering when a major repair is due.
We raise it with you if we see it, without pressure to do anything that day. Where a boiler has already been under water, it must not be used until a Gas Safe engineer has checked it.
A fixed diagnostic price, all makes and models, and a straight answer on repair or replace.
A drip from under the casing, or water from the pipe that runs outside from the pressure relief valve, means something is letting by: a seal, a valve, or the relief valve responding to pressure that has climbed too high.
Switch the boiler off at the fused spur, catch the water in a tray and ring us. Do not open the casing to look.
You can check the pressure gauge, the power, the timer and the thermostat, and reset the boiler once as the manual says. If the condensate pipe outside has frozen, warm water poured along it often frees it.
Everything behind the casing is gas work. The law requires a Gas Safe registered engineer for it, so do not remove panels or adjust anything inside. Ask any engineer who arrives to show their Gas Safe ID card.
If radiators are cold at the top, bleed them and top the pressure back up. If they are cold along the bottom, that points to sludge, which is a job for us.
We fix what can sensibly be fixed, on any make. When a boiler is past it, because the heat exchanger has failed, parts are no longer made or the repairs keep coming, we explain why and leave the decision with you.
A new boiler starts from £2,375 + VAT (£2,850 including VAT), including removal of the old one and warranty registration. Next day installation is available on most standard replacements, subject to survey, and selected models carry up to 12 years of manufacturer guarantee.
Vaillant and Ideal make up most of what we fit, alongside Worcester Bosch. See our boiler installation in Kempston page.
Labour is guaranteed for 12 months, so if a repair we carried out fails in that period because of our work, putting it right costs you no labour. You get a plain account of the fault and the fix, and anything else we noticed that you may want to plan for.
If a service is due, it can be added while we are there for £50 + VAT (£60 including VAT), about thirty minutes. Details on boiler servicing in Kempston.

Anglian Water describes water across the East of England as likely to be hard. It has no figure for Kempston that we can quote, but boilers here still scale.
If it is at the lowest point of a property where water could get in, raising it or improving its isolation is worth discussing. We give you an honest view and a price.

Every engineer we send carries a Gas Safe ID card, so ask for it at the door. Our registration, 956889, is on the public Gas Safe Register.
Often air, sludge or an unbalanced system rather than the boiler. We check the circuit as well as the appliance.
