HERTFORDSHIRE, BEDFORDSHIRE & CAMBRIDGESHIRE
Bedford boiler servicing at £99 + VAT (£118.80 including VAT) means the casing comes off, the combustion is measured and you keep a written record of every check.

The engineer isolates the power and gas, takes the front casing off and looks over the inside before touching anything, noting any signs of leaks, corrosion or overheating.
The burner and ignition electrodes are inspected and cleaned, and the heat exchanger is checked for scale, debris and damage. The seals that keep combustion gases inside the case are examined and replaced if they have hardened.
The condensate trap is removed, emptied of sludge, cleaned and refilled, and the drain route outside is checked. A blocked trap is one of the most common reasons a condensing boiler locks out in winter.
Gas pressure is measured, the safety devices are tested and a flue gas analyser reads what the boiler is producing. On sealed systems we check the pressure and the expansion vessel, then run heating and hot water before the casing goes back.

Call and talk to an engineer, or send us the details and we will come back to you with a price.
Every service ends with a written record: the readings taken, what was cleaned or replaced, and anything that needs attention. Keep it with your boiler paperwork.
Manufacturers ask for that record when you make a warranty claim, and a buyer’s surveyor may ask for it if you sell. If a visit ends with a signature and no readings, the flue gases were not measured, and you have not had a full service.
Safety: the flue gas reading is how incomplete combustion is found, and carbon monoxide cannot be smelled
Efficiency: a clean burner and heat exchanger turn more of your gas into heat
Warranty: manufacturers generally require a yearly Gas Safe service
Reliability: worn parts show up in autumn, not on the first freezing night
Records: a service history helps when you sell or claim
Boilers fitted in the newer Great Denham and Wixams homes are often still inside their manufacturer guarantee, which on selected boilers can run to 12 years, so a missed year can cost more than the service itself.
For a Bedford home, the yearly service costs £99 + VAT (£118.80 including VAT).
If one of our engineers is already with you for a repair, a service can be added on the same visit for £50 + VAT (£60 including VAT). It adds about thirty minutes.
Our full list of charges, including the fixed diagnostic and new boiler prices, is on the pricing page.
We have no hardness figure from the water company for Bedford, so we do not put a number on it. Anglian Water says its region’s water is likely to be hard, and on services across town we regularly find scale on combi plate heat exchangers and in heat exchangers.
Building Regulations guidance says water above 200 mg/l should be treated before it feeds a combination boiler, to slow scale. On the service we look at whether your boiler has scale protection on the incoming main and whether it is doing anything.
On the heating side, we check the inhibitor level in the system water. Too little and corrosion starts to produce the black sludge that blocks radiators and pumps.
Some scale reducers rely on a cartridge with a limited life. If yours has one, we check whether it is still working, since a spent cartridge protects nothing.
A pilot light or flame that burns yellow or lazy on an older boiler, black marks around the case or the flue, a boiler that takes several attempts to light, or pressure that drifts between visits are all reasons not to wait.
So are hot water temperatures that wander on a combi, a condensate pipe that gurgles, or a service record that nobody can find. If any of those sound familiar, ring now rather than waiting for September.
If you ever notice sooting, headaches that ease when you leave the house, or a carbon monoxide alarm sounding, turn the boiler off, ventilate and ring the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.
Casing off, burner and heat exchanger inspected, flue gas readings taken, and a written record of what we found.
Bedford runs from Georgian and Victorian streets in the conservation area to the golf village at Great Denham and the new town at Wixams, which is still being built. The boilers vary as much as the houses.
In older terraces we often find regular boilers with a cylinder in an airing cupboard and pipework altered over many years. There we also look at the pump and the valves the service does not strictly cover, and tell you if they are tired.
In the newer homes the boiler is usually a combi or a system boiler with an unvented cylinder. Mention an unvented cylinder when you book so we can price any check of it separately and in advance.
Sometimes a service turns up a worn seal, a sticking diverter valve or an ignition electrode near the end of its life. The engineer explains what it is, whether the boiler is safe to use, and what the repair costs, before anything else happens.
Anything unsafe is made safe there and then and recorded. Everything else is your choice, and if you agree a repair on the spot, the labour carries our 12 month guarantee.
It works the other way round too. If you called us about a fault and the boiler is due its annual visit, the service can be added while the engineer is there, at the lower add-on price, and you avoid a second appointment.
The annual gas safety check and its record, the CP12, can be done on the same visit as the service. That is one appointment for the tenant to allow, with the record and the service sheet both left behind.
With several lets across town we can line the visits up so each record renews at a predictable time of year. What the check involves is explained on our landlord gas safety certificate page.
Aim for September or October if you can. The boiler has sat idle through summer and the first cold week has not arrived, so there is time to fix anything the service finds. After that, keep to roughly the same month each year, which also lets landlords line the service up with the gas safety record.
Clear the cupboard around the boiler so the casing can come off and the pipes underneath can be seen. If the boiler is in a loft, check the hatch opens, the ladder is safe and there is a light up there. Expect the heating and hot water to be off for part of the visit.
Have the last service record and the warranty documents to hand if you can, so the engineer can note what has changed since the previous visit. Tell us where the gas meter is too, since the gas pressure is checked there.
We service all common makes, not just the Vaillant, Ideal and Worcester Bosch boilers we fit. Every engineer is our own employee, Gas Safe registered under 956889, and carries a photo ID card you can ask to see.

Our average response to an emergency call is under an hour across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
On its own, £99 + VAT (£118.80 including VAT). Tagged onto a repair we are already doing, £50 + VAT (£60 including VAT).
Added to a repair visit it is about thirty minutes. A standalone visit depends on the boiler and how much cleaning the trap and burner need.
A written service record with the flue gas readings, what was cleaned or replaced, and anything that needs attention.
Yes. Landlords can have the gas safety check and record done on the same visit as the service.
Most manufacturers make a yearly Gas Safe service a condition. Skip one and a claim can be refused.
Not automatically. The water is hard, and scale protection on the feed to a combi is often enough. We will say plainly what your system needs.
You are told what it is and what it costs, and nothing beyond the service happens unless you agree.
Early autumn, ideally September or October, while the heating is still mostly off.
No. We service it the same way and tell you plainly what we find, including anything that should be put right first.
No. The service maintains the boiler and keeps the warranty in order, while the gas safety check is the legal inspection a landlord needs. Both can be done on one visit.
Yes. The service itself changes nothing outside the case, and if the flue or condensate ever needs moving we tell you when consent might be needed.
Servicing across MK40 to MK45, including De Parys, Castle, Harpur, Cauldwell, Newnham, Goldington, Putnoe, Brickhill, Queens Park and Kingsbrook, with Kempston alongside.
Great Denham and Wixams are covered on the same terms. For repairs, see boiler repair in Bedford.
