HERTFORDSHIRE, BEDFORDSHIRE & CAMBRIDGESHIRE
A full annual boiler service in Cambridge for £99 + VAT (£118.80 including VAT). The engineer strips, cleans and tests the boiler, and you keep a written record.

A proper service takes the boiler apart far enough to see the parts that wear, rather than looking at the display and signing a form. On a Cambridge visit, our engineer will:
Ask how the boiler has been running and check the controls
Take the casing off and inspect the internals for leaks and corrosion
Check and clean the burner and ignition electrodes
Look over the heat exchanger for scale and debris
Remove, flush and refill the condensate trap
Check the case and combustion chamber seals
Inspect the flue inside and out where it can be seen
Measure the combustion with a flue gas analyser
Check the gas pressure and safety devices
We service combi, system and regular boilers of all the common makes, not only the Vaillant, Ideal and Worcester Bosch we fit.

Call and talk to an engineer, or send us the details and we will come back to you with a price.
When the casing goes back on, you are given a written record of the checks, the readings and anything that needs attention. If a reading is outside what the manufacturer allows, the record says so.
Keep the records together. A manufacturer will ask for them if a part fails under guarantee, and a buyer or a letting agent may ask for them too.
Note the date on the front of the record. Booking the next service for roughly the same month keeps the history tidy and makes it easy to show the boiler has been looked after every year.
Carbon monoxide gives no warning you can see or smell. The flue gas test is how poor combustion or a failing seal is caught early.
Deposits on the burner and scale on the heat exchanger make a boiler burn more gas for the same warmth. Cleaning them keeps it efficient.
Most manufacturers require a yearly Gas Safe service to keep the warranty valid, and a gap in the records can mean a refused claim.
Seals harden, electrodes wear and condensate traps clog slowly. Finding them on a planned visit costs far less than finding them on the first cold night of the year.
Cambridge Water publishes separate figures for the two halves of the city. In 2025, zone Z1 Cambridge City North measured 334.6 mg/l as calcium carbonate, about 23.4 Clark degrees. Zone Z2 Cambridge City South measured 307.2 mg/l, about 21.5 Clark.
North of the Cam covers wards such as Arbury, Castle, King’s Hedges, Newnham and West Chesterton. South covers Abbey, Cherry Hinton, Coleridge, Market, Petersfield, Queen Edith’s, Romsey and Trumpington.
Both are very hard, and the northern zone is the harder of the two. These are zone figures, not a test at your tap, but they tell you scale is something every Cambridge boiler has to live with.
The Building Regulations compliance guide advises treating the supply to a combi wherever hardness passes 200 mg/l. Cambridge exceeds that comfortably on both sides of the river, so on every service we look for scale on the heat exchanger and check how the hot water side performs.
If there is no scale reducer on the incoming main, we tell you whether one would help your boiler. If there is, we check it is still working, since some need a new cartridge after a while.
We also check the heating water and inhibitor. Older systems in Chesterton and the Mill Road terraces benefit most from keeping that water clean, because sludge blocks heat exchangers and wears out pumps.
Where a system or regular boiler heats a hot water cylinder, hard water furs the cylinder coil and any immersion element too. Slow hot water recovery after a bath is the usual sign, and it is worth telling the engineer about.
An annual boiler service anywhere in CB1 to CB5 is £99 + VAT (£118.80 including VAT), and weekday appointments carry no call-out fee.
Already have one of our engineers with you for a repair? The service can be added for £50 + VAT (£60 including VAT), taking about thirty minutes.
If a part needs replacing, you are told what it is and what it costs before it is fitted. See our pricing page for the full list of rates.
The flue gas analysis and the written record are part of the service, not extras added on the day.
Casing off, burner and heat exchanger inspected, flue gas readings taken, and a written record of what we found.
Allow around an hour for most boilers, longer if it has missed a few years or the condensate trap is badly blocked.
September or October is the time to book. The heating is about to run every day, and anything worn can be put right before the cold weather rather than after a breakdown.
Clear the cupboard around the boiler before the engineer arrives. In a flat above a shop or a converted terrace, let us know how to reach the boiler and the flue.
Many Cambridge terraces have been converted to flats or let to students. The annual gas safety check and record (CP12) can be done on the same visit as the service, so the tenants only need to allow access once.
Booking before a new tenancy starts avoids chasing access during term. What the check involves for a Cambridge let is set out on our landlord gas safety certificate page.
If you let several flats in one converted house, tell us which boilers serve which flats when you book. The engineer can then plan the visits in one run and leave a separate record for each boiler.
Some boilers make it obvious they need attention. Mention any of these when you book:
A yellow or lazy flame instead of a crisp blue one
Sooty marks on the casing or around the flue terminal
Pressure that creeps down between top ups
Shower temperature that swings or tails off
New noises, such as kettling or whistling
No written service record for more than a year
A sooty mark or a yellow flame is a reason to switch the boiler off and call, not to wait for the routine visit.
Now and then a service finds a worn seal, a failing sensor or scale that is already affecting hot water. You get an explanation, a line on the service record and a price, and nothing is touched until you agree.
A boiler found to be unsafe is made safe there and then, with the reason given to you in plain words. Anything short of that can be fixed when it suits you. Where the heating water is badly contaminated, we will say whether a power flush is worth it, from £595 + VAT for up to five radiators with inhibitor included, or whether it is not what is needed.
Heated by the Eddington district heating network rather than your own boiler? Then there may be no boiler for us to service, because the heat comes from the energy centre. Ask us if you are unsure what you have.
Any repair we carry out after a service carries our 12 month labour guarantee, the same as every other job we do.

In water as hard as Cambridge’s it is usually worth it. We tell you on the service whether it suits your boiler.

It finds scale and checks your protection. Heavy scale in a heat exchanger is a repair, which we price separately.
