HERTFORDSHIRE, BEDFORDSHIRE & CAMBRIDGESHIRE
An annual service for boilers across Datchworth parish, done by our own Gas Safe engineers with the casing off and the combustion tested, for £99 + VAT (£118.80 including VAT).

A service is not a glance and a sticker. Our engineer works through the boiler in a set order, so nothing gets skipped, whether it hangs in a kitchen or sits in a garage at the end of the drive.
Ask about any faults, then check the pressure and controls
Look at the flue terminal outside and what has grown or been built near it
Isolate gas and power, then remove the casing
Inspect and clean the burner, electrodes and fan
Check the heat exchanger for debris and scale
Remove, clean and refill the condensate trap
Examine the seals and gaskets on the combustion chamber
Test the gas pressure and prove the safety devices
Analyse the flue gases and write up the record
If something needs attention, you are told what it is and what it would cost before anything extra is done.

Call and talk to an engineer, or send us the details and we will come back to you with a price.
A written record of the service, including the combustion readings, what was cleaned and any defect the engineer found. It should also say whether anything was left for you to decide on. It is the proof a manufacturer asks for if a part fails under guarantee.
Keep each year’s record together. A gap of a year or two is exactly what a warranty claim gets refused on.
If we fitted the boiler, the service record sits alongside the manufacturer warranty we registered for you at installation, so everything a claim might need is in one place.
Flue gas analysis shows whether the boiler is burning cleanly. A worn seal or a partly blocked flue is found on a service, not by the carbon monoxide alarm. Carbon monoxide has no smell, which is why the reading matters more than how the flame looks.
A clean burner and clear heat exchanger give the same heat for less gas, and a small fault found in October costs less than a breakdown in January.
Almost every manufacturer requires an annual service by a Gas Safe engineer. On the selected boilers we fit, the guarantee can run up to 12 years, but only while the service history is unbroken.
An engineer who has had the case off every year builds up a picture of the boiler. A part that is wearing shows up on the record long before it fails on a frosty morning.
We use Affinity Water’s published figures for its Knebworth/Tewin zone, AF015, as a guide: a 2025 mean of 295 mg/l, ranging from 263 to 350. That the parish sits in AF015 comes from a third party rather than Affinity’s own checker, so your tap may differ.
Either way the supply is hard. On a service we look for scale in the condensate trap, deposits on the heat exchanger, slow or unsteady hot water on a combi and the first sound of kettling. A combi that takes longer to run hot than it used to is often the first clue.
Caught early, that is a clean and a conversation about protection. Left for a few winters, it tends to become a new plate heat exchanger, a seized pump or a diverter valve that no longer moves freely.
Building Regulations guidance calls for treatment where water over 200 mg/l feeds a combi’s hot water circuit. A scale reducer on the cold main does that job, and some manufacturers make water treatment a condition of their warranty.
On the heating side we check inhibitor levels on every service. If the system water is heavily contaminated, our power flushing in Datchworth page explains when a flush is right and when it is not.
A magnetic filter is also worth having on the heating circuit to catch sludge, though it does nothing for limescale in the hot water side. We quote for one separately if you want it.
The yearly service is £99 + VAT (£118.80 including VAT), covering the strip down, combustion test and written record. Parts are extra and always priced before they are fitted.
If one of our engineers is already with you for a repair, a service can be added for £50 + VAT (£60 including VAT). It takes about thirty minutes and saves a second trip down the lane.
There is nothing extra for the outlying hamlets, and a service booked for a weekday between 8am and 5pm carries no call-out fee.
Casing off, burner and heat exchanger inspected, flue gas readings taken, and a written record of what we found.
Now and then a service turns up a failing part: an ignition electrode worn thin, a leaking seal, a pump starting to stick. You are told whether the boiler is safe to keep running and what the repair would cost.
Anything dangerous is made safe on the spot and recorded. Anything else is your call, and the repair can often be done on the same visit if the part is on the van.
If it needs a return trip, the repair follows the same pricing as our boiler repair in Datchworth page, and you know the figure before we order anything.
For a rented house, the annual gas safety check and record (CP12) can be done on the same visit as the boiler service, so the tenant only has to let us in once.
Our landlord gas safety certificate page explains what the check covers and which records to keep.
Give your tenant a copy of the gas safety record and keep your own. Lining the service up with the record’s renewal date means one reminder a year instead of two.
Early autumn is the best time, after a quiet summer and before the first cold week, so any fault shows while there is time to fix it. For a boiler in a garage or outbuilding, it is also the moment to check the condensate pipe is protected before the frosts.
No service record from the last twelve months
Hot water that runs lukewarm or swings in temperature
The pressure gauge creeping down between top ups
A rumble or bang when the burner lights
Lockouts that clear with a reset and come back
Dark staining on the casing or around the flue
Staining or sooting is a reason to switch off and ring now rather than wait for autumn. If a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, open the windows, get everyone out and ring 0800 111 999.
We service combi, system and regular gas boilers of every common make. We fit mostly Vaillant and Ideal, and also Worcester Bosch, but a boiler of any age gets the same checks, including older regular boilers feeding a cylinder with tanks in the loft.
Our engineers are our own staff, Gas Safe registered under 956889, and any work done on the day carries our 12 month labour guarantee. Every engineer carries a Gas Safe ID card, and you are welcome to check it at the door.

Emergency response within the hour
Our average response to an emergency call is under an hour across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
It depends on the model and how easy it is to reach, which matters when the boiler is in a garage or outbuilding. A service added to a repair takes about thirty minutes.
Yes, provided it is done every year by a Gas Safe engineer and recorded. The written record you are given is for exactly that.
Yes. Both are done in one appointment, and you get the CP12 record alongside the service record.
Yes. We look for hard water scale on every service and tell you what we found and whether anything is worth doing.
September or October, while the heating is still ticking over. A late service is still better than none.
No. It is £99 + VAT (£118.80 including VAT) anywhere in the parish.
Yes, and we check the condensate pipe and any exposed pipework on the way, since those are the parts most likely to freeze.
Someone needs to let the engineer in and show them the boiler, and it helps if you can stay to hear what was found.
Yes. It is £50 + VAT (£60 including VAT) on top of the repair and takes about thirty minutes.
Yes. The terminal is checked for damage and for anything built or grown too close, and the flue gases are tested with an analyser.
The engineer finds out why, often a seal, the burner or the flue, and tells you whether it is safe to use. If it is not, it is made safe before we leave.
We service boilers throughout the parish, from Datchworth Green and Bramfield Road to Bulls Green, Burnham Green and Hooks Cross, all in SG3. The 2021 census counted 1,513 people across those greens and lanes, and every one of them is inside our normal area.
