HERTFORDSHIRE, BEDFORDSHIRE & CAMBRIDGESHIRE
Annual boiler servicing in Hatfield, AL10 and AL9, by our own Gas Safe engineers. £99 + VAT (£118.80 including VAT), with the casing off and a written record to keep.

A full annual boiler service in Hatfield costs £99 + VAT (£118.80 including VAT). The boiler is opened up, cleaned where it needs it, tested with a flue gas analyser and recorded in writing.
Already having a repair done by us? The service can be added to that visit for £50 + VAT (£60 including VAT), and it takes about thirty minutes more.
The price includes the flue gas test and the written record. Parts are extra only if something needs replacing, and you are told the cost and asked before anything is fitted.

Call and talk to an engineer, or send us the details and we will come back to you with a price.
Power and gas are isolated and the casing comes off. The engineer looks over the inside for leaks, corrosion, scorching and loose connections before cleaning anything.
Burner and electrodes get a close look and a clean, and the heat exchanger is examined for scale and debris. The case and combustion chamber seals are examined, since a failed seal can let flue gases escape.
The condensate trap is removed, cleaned and refilled. Gas pressure is measured, and on sealed systems the water pressure and expansion vessel are checked.
A flue gas analyser reads the combustion, the safety devices are tested, and the boiler is run on heating and hot water before the engineer packs up.
A written service record listing the readings, what was cleaned or replaced and anything that needs attention. File it with the boiler’s manual and warranty documents.
If a visit ends with no readings, the flue gases were not measured, and that is not a full service. The record is what a manufacturer asks for when a warranty claim is made.
Where your boiler’s manual has a service history page, the engineer fills that in as well, so anyone looking at the boiler later can see it has been looked after year by year.
Safety: worn seals and poor combustion are found before they become a carbon monoxide risk
Efficiency: a clean burner and heat exchanger waste less gas
Warranty: manufacturers expect a yearly service, and guarantees on selected boilers run to 12 years
Fewer breakdowns: tired parts are spotted in autumn rather than in a freeze
A history: useful when you sell, or when a fault needs tracing
Skipping a year rarely saves money once a breakdown or a refused warranty claim is counted, and carbon monoxide gives no warning you can smell.
Affinity Water’s 2025 report for its Hatfield and Potters Bar zone, AF023, puts total hardness at 280 mg/l as calcium carbonate, from a single sample. Affinity classes that as hard.
Building Regulations guidance is that water above 200 mg/l should be treated before it feeds a combination boiler, to slow limescale. Hatfield’s published figure is comfortably above that line.
On the service we look for the signs: a noisy heat exchanger, a combi slow to deliver hot water, deposits in the condensate trap. Found early, scale is a cleaning job. Left alone, it becomes a replacement part.
We also check whether your boiler has a scale reducer on the incoming main and whether it is still working. Some rely on a cartridge that runs out, and a spent one does nothing.
The heating side has its own enemy. Low inhibitor in the system water lets corrosion form black sludge that blocks radiators, pumps and heat exchangers, so we test the inhibitor level on every service.
Many early New Town houses were first heated by a solid fuel back boiler and radiators, and some pipe runs from that era were reused when gas boilers went in. Those older circuits are where we most often find sludge.
If the water is badly contaminated, a flush may be worth it, but we check first and say plainly when it is not. Our Hatfield power flushing page covers that.
Radiators that are cold at the bottom but hot at the top, or a boiler that kettles even though the water side is clean, are the usual clues that sludge is building on the heating side.
Casing off, burner and heat exchanger inspected, flue gas readings taken, and a written record of what we found.
The Ryde’s courtyard houses were designed with underfloor heating. If yours still has it, tell us when you book, and the engineer will look at the pressure and the mixing arrangement as well as the boiler.
In a flat, wherever the boiler sits, clear the cupboard around it before we arrive and let us know about parking and how to get into the block. Loft boilers in houses need a safe ladder and a light.
In a block, a leaking boiler can affect the flat below as well as your own, so a weeping valve or a damp patch under the case is worth mentioning when you book. The engineer will look at it during the service.
South Hatfield was deliberately built with a mix of rented and bought homes. For landlords anywhere in town, the annual gas safety check and record, the CP12, can be done on the same visit as the service.
One appointment, one arrangement with the tenant, and both documents left behind: the CP12 for the tenancy and the service record for the warranty. Our landlord gas safety certificate page sets out the check.
If you have several properties, we can keep each on a fixed month so no record lapses. Tenants should be given a copy of each year’s gas safety record, so it helps to have it done on a date you will remember.
A worn seal, a failing electrode or a pump starting to stick can all turn up on a service. The engineer shows you what it is, tells you whether the boiler is safe to use and gives you the repair price.
If something is unsafe, it is dealt with before we leave and written on the record. Everything else is your decision, and repair labour carries our 12 month guarantee.
Because the engineer is already there with the casing off, many small faults can be put right on the same visit once you have agreed the price, which saves a second appointment.
If a part is not something we would fit on the spot, or you would rather think it over, the boiler is left safe and the fault is written on the record so nothing is forgotten.
Book for September or October. Boilers that sat quietly all summer often reveal a fault when the heating first comes on, and it is far better to learn that before the cold weather than during it.
Do not wait for autumn if the boiler takes several goes to light, the hot water temperature wanders, the pressure keeps dropping or there is staining around the case. If a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, turn the boiler off, get outside and call 0800 111 999.
We service all common makes, not only the Vaillant, Ideal and Worcester Bosch boilers we install, and every engineer carries a Gas Safe ID card under our registration, 956889.
Once you have a date that works, keep to roughly the same month every year. It makes the service easy to remember, and for landlords it keeps the gas safety record renewing on time.

£99 + VAT (£118.80 including VAT) for a full annual service with a written record.
Yes. The CP12 gas safety check and record can be done on the same visit as the service.
It is £50 + VAT (£60 including VAT) and takes about thirty minutes while the engineer is already there.
The published figure for zone AF023 is 280 mg/l, which is hard. Over time that scales up heat exchangers, which is why we check for it on every service.
September and October, before the heating is needed every day.
That varies with the boiler and the cleaning it needs. Bolted onto a repair visit, count on about thirty minutes.
We look at the pressure and mixing arrangement while servicing the boiler, and tell you if anything needs attention.
Yes, all common makes, whoever fitted them.
No. The service maintains the boiler and supports the warranty, while the gas safety check is the legal inspection landlords need. Both can be done on one visit.
Someone needs to let the engineer in and be there at the end, when the findings and the record are explained.
We service it the same way and tell you plainly what we find, including anything that needs putting right first.
We service boilers across AL10 and AL9, from the listed buildings of Old Hatfield to Roe Green, South Hatfield, Oxlease and The Ryde.
Ellenbrook, Salisbury Village and De Havilland Grange are part of the same round. For breakdowns, see boiler repair in Hatfield.
Ring 01462 506 374 and we will fix a date for the annual service. Letting the property? Ask for the CP12 at the same time.
