HERTFORDSHIRE, BEDFORDSHIRE & CAMBRIDGESHIRE
Annual boiler servicing across Henlow village and Henlow Camp by our own Gas Safe engineers, for £99 + VAT (£118.80 including VAT), with every reading written down for you.

Burner and ignition inspected and cleaned
Heat exchanger checked for scale and deposits
Condensate trap cleaned out and refilled
Case seals checked so combustion products stay inside
Gas pressure and safety devices tested
Flue gases measured with an analyser
Written record filled in and handed over
That is the order our engineer follows once the boiler has been isolated and the casing is off, working through the inside of the appliance rather than looking at it from the outside. Anything that needs attention is explained and priced before it is touched, and nothing is replaced on the quiet. Before any of it, the engineer asks how the boiler has been behaving, because a noise or a fault code you have noticed tells them where to look hardest.
Get a fixed price before we start
Call and talk to an engineer, or send us the details and we will come back to you with a price.
Your written record should give the boiler make and model, the date, the flue gas readings, the gas pressure, what was cleaned and any defects found. If a reading is borderline, it should say so.
Keep every record together. When a warranty claim is made the manufacturer asks for them, and a gap in the sequence is a common reason for a claim to fail.
Before the engineer leaves, read the record through. If something is marked as needing attention, ask how soon and what it would cost. A service is only useful if you understand what it found.
The flue gas reading shows whether the boiler is burning cleanly. A failing seal or restricted flue is found at the service rather than by a carbon monoxide alarm going off.
A serviced boiler burns less gas for the same warmth, because the burner is clean and the combustion is set up as the maker intended.
Most manufacturer guarantees require a yearly service with a written record. Miss a year and a claim may be refused just when you need it. New boilers we fit carry up to 12 years on selected models, subject to that servicing.
Most breakdowns give some warning first: a pump that sounds laboured, a trap part blocked, a pressure that drifts. The service is where those signs are picked up, in autumn, rather than on the first freezing night of the year.
In Henlow the yearly service costs £99 + VAT (£118.80 including VAT), and a weekday booking has no call-out charge.
If one of our engineers is already there for a repair, the service can be added for £50 + VAT (£60 including VAT), taking about thirty minutes.
For timing, September or October works best. The boiler gets its check before the first cold snap, and any part it needs can be fitted before you depend on it every day.
Combis, system boilers and regular boilers of every make are covered, the Vaillant, Ideal and Worcester Bosch models we install among them. Every engineer is our own employee, Gas Safe registered under 956889, and the visit takes as long as the checks need rather than a fixed slot.
Central Bedfordshire has two water suppliers, and we have not been able to confirm which one serves each part of Henlow. Rather than quote a figure we cannot stand behind, we look at what is happening inside your boiler. Your supplier’s website gives the published hardness for your postcode.
Scale in a combi’s plate heat exchanger shows as hot water that wavers, and scale on the main heat exchanger as kettling. Caught at a service, both can be dealt with before they cause a breakdown. On a cylinder system, the coil inside the cylinder scales too, and the first sign is a tank of hot water that takes longer to recover after a bath.
If your supplier’s figure is over 200 mg/l, Building Regulations guidance says the water feeding a combi should be treated. Many manufacturers make a similar point in their warranty terms.
We check whether a scale reducer is fitted and still working, and tell you if one is missing or spent.
Inhibitor in the heating water stops corrosion and sludge, and we check its level at the service. Radiators cold along the bottom, or slow to warm, are worth mentioning when you book.
Where the system water is badly contaminated a flush might help, but we test first and tell you if it is not needed. Our power flushing page explains how we decide.
If a magnetic filter is fitted on the return pipe, ask the engineer to look at it while they are there. What collects inside is a good guide to the state of the heating water, and we will tell you if it points to anything worth knowing.
Casing off, burner and heat exchanger inspected, flue gas readings taken, and a written record of what we found.
Henlow Camp grew beside the RAF station from the First World War onwards, and some homes were built as service family housing. Because it built up over decades, no two systems quite match.
A boiler in a store cupboard may need extra time to reach safely, and microbore pipework in one house can sit next door to 15mm copper. We note how the system is circulating while we are there, although that sits outside the service itself.
Where a house has changed hands several times and nobody knows the boiler’s history, the first service with us sets a baseline, so later years can show whether anything is getting worse.
When you book, tell us where the boiler is and whether anything is stored in front of it. A clear cupboard means the engineer spends the visit on the boiler rather than on getting to it.
In the Henlow Conservation Area around the High Street and the parish church, boilers and flues sit wherever an older building allowed. We check the flue route and terminal on every service.
If anything outside would ever need to change, we flag it early so you can plan, including checking consent with Central Bedfordshire Council where that applies.
Some older homes in the village still have a regular boiler feeding a hot water cylinder, with a tank in the loft. On those the service also takes in the controls that switch between heating and hot water, since a sticking valve is a common reason for one working without the other.
We carry out gas safety checks and records (CP12s) for landlords across Henlow, Henlow Camp and the surrounding villages, and the check can be done on the same visit as the service.
That means one visit a year to arrange with your tenant. Our landlord gas safety certificate page sets out each item the engineer checks.
Tell us about every gas appliance in the property when you book, not just the boiler, so enough time is allowed. Let us know too whether the tenant will be home or keys need collecting, especially where the let is managed through an agent.
No record of a service in the last year
Pressure dropping between top ups
Kettling or rumbling on start up
A flame that looks yellow or lazy
Staining around the case or flue terminal
Any of these is a reason to book sooner rather than waiting for the usual month. Staining or a smell of fumes means switching the boiler off and ringing us straight away. If you smell gas, leave, avoid switches and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 before anyone else.

It is £99 + VAT, or £118.80 once VAT is added, and the flue gas test and written record are part of that.
Yes. For landlords, the gas safety check and record can be done on the same visit.
It finds and reports scale and cleans what can be cleaned. Heavy scale in a heat exchanger may need a separate repair, priced first.
Yes, for £50 + VAT (£60 including VAT). It takes about thirty minutes.
Yes, whatever age the heating system is.
That varies with the make, the age and how awkward the boiler is to get at. We allow whatever time the checks need.
Yes, all makes and ages, and we tell you honestly if one is nearing the end. If replacement makes sense, new boilers start from £2,375 + VAT (£2,850 including VAT).
You are told what it is and what the repair costs before anything is done. A dangerous fault is dealt with there and then, so the boiler is never left in an unsafe state.
Someone needs to let the engineer in. That can be the tenant or an agent, as long as we have access to every gas appliance.
That depends on your supplier’s published figure for your postcode. Over 200 mg/l, guidance says a combi’s feed should be treated.
