HERTFORDSHIRE, BEDFORDSHIRE & CAMBRIDGESHIRE
In hard water, a yearly service is the best chance of spotting scale before it stops the boiler. In Huntingdon it costs £99 + VAT (£118.80 including VAT), with a written record every time.

The boiler is isolated and the casing comes off so the engineer can see the combustion area, burner and heat exchanger directly.
The burner and heat exchanger are inspected and cleaned where needed, the condensate trap is cleared and refilled, and the seals are checked for signs of wear.
Gas pressure and safety devices are tested, and a flue gas analyser confirms the boiler is burning correctly and that combustion gases are leaving safely. The flue terminal outside is checked too.
Everything is written up on a service record, with the readings and any advice, for you to keep.

Call and talk to an engineer, or send us the details and we will come back to you with a price.
A service record should list the boiler, the date, the combustion readings and anything found or advised. It is what a manufacturer asks for when a warranty claim is made, and what a buyer may ask about when you sell.
Before leaving, the engineer also tells you in plain terms what state the boiler is in. If nothing needs doing, you hear that too.
Lost the old records? The next service starts a new history. The engineer notes the age and condition of the boiler so that the following visit has something to compare against.
An annual service is the main safety check a gas appliance gets. It picks up worn seals and poor combustion before they become dangerous, which matters in any home where people sleep near the boiler.
It also keeps the boiler efficient and is usually a condition of the manufacturer’s guarantee. Miss a year and a claim may be questioned. On selected boilers we fit, that guarantee runs to up to 12 years, every one of them tied to the annual service.
A boiler that seems to run perfectly can still be burning poorly or have a seal starting to fail. Neither shows from outside, which is why the check is done with the casing off and an analyser in the flue.
It is also the least expensive moment to deal with small wear. A seal that has started to weep or a trap that is clogging costs little in October and a great deal more when the boiler stops in January.
We have not been able to confirm from the supplier which company serves every Huntingdon postcode, so we give no hardness figure here. Anglian Water, based in the town, says water across the East of England is likely to be hard because it comes from chalk and limestone groundwater.
Water like that lays scale on the hottest surfaces inside a boiler. During a service we look for it on the heat exchanger and, on combis, on the hot water side, where it first shows as weak or fluctuating hot water.
Guidance under the Building Regulations says water above 200 mg/l hardness should be treated before it feeds a combi. We check what treatment is fitted against what your boiler paperwork asks for.
Scale seizes isolation valves as well as boilers, so we try the valves around the appliance while we are there. Finding one stuck on a quiet autumn morning beats finding it during a leak.
Where it is justified, a scale reducer on the incoming main cuts the rate of build-up. We explain whether yours needs one rather than fitting it by default.
We also check the inhibitor in the heating water. On Oxmoor and other 1960s systems with microbore pipework, the condition of that water matters more than usual, because narrow pipe blocks sooner.
If the water is badly sludged, a power flush starts from £595 + VAT for up to five radiators, with inhibitor included. A magnetic filter is quoted separately, and we test first and tell you when a flush is not needed.
Where a magnetic filter is fitted, we check when it was last emptied, because a filter packed with sludge does little good. Where there is none, we tell you whether one is worth adding.
An annual service costs £99 + VAT (£118.80 including VAT). There is no call-out fee for a weekday visit inside normal hours, 8am to 5pm.
The time it takes depends on the boiler, where it is and what the checks turn up. An old floor standing boiler or one squeezed into a cupboard takes longer than a modern combi on a kitchen wall.
If an engineer is already with you for a repair, adding a service costs £50 + VAT (£60 including VAT) and takes around thirty minutes, as the boiler is already open.
Casing off, burner and heat exchanger inspected, flue gas readings taken, and a written record of what we found.
If you let a property in Huntingdon, the yearly gas safety check and its record (the CP12) can be completed while our engineer is there for the service. One appointment covers both, which is simpler for tenants and for you.
The CP12 has its own record, so mention it when you book. Our landlord gas safety certificate page runs through each part of the check.
If an appliance fails the check, the engineer explains why and what it would take to put right before the tenant uses it again.
Tenants often live with a boiler quirk for months without reporting it. The service visit is a good chance for the engineer to ask them how the heating and hot water have been behaving, and to note anything worth your attention.
Look out for a pressure gauge that falls between top-ups, soot or staining on the case, a yellow or lazy flame where it is visible, new noises when it fires, and hot water that has become slow.
A carbon monoxide alarm sounding is not a service matter. Turn the boiler off, open windows, get everyone outside and ring the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.
Also worth booking: a boiler you inherited when you moved in, with no service record in the drawer. You have no idea when it was last opened, and the first service gives you a baseline.
September or October. The boiler is about to start working hard, and any fault found has time to be fixed before it is needed every day.
If your home is on the low ground near the Great Ouse, an autumn service also confirms everything is sound before winter weather arrives.
Leaving it until the first cold week means waiting behind breakdown calls. An autumn booking keeps your service on roughly the same date each year, which is what a guarantee usually expects.
We service all makes and types of gas boiler: combi, system and regular, old floor standing models included, and the Vaillant, Ideal and Worcester Bosch boilers we fit. Our Gas Safe engineers, registration 956889, are directly employed.
If the service finds a fault, the engineer explains it, notes it on the record and prices the repair before doing it. You decide whether to go ahead. For breakdowns, see boiler repair in Huntingdon.
Small jobs that are part of servicing, like clearing a blocked trap, are simply done. For a worn part you get the reason and the price, and if the van carries it the repair can often be done the same visit.

£99 + VAT, which is £99 + VAT (£118.80 including VAT).
Once a year is the standard, but in hard water it is especially important not to skip one. Scale builds steadily between visits.
It is a separate check, but it can be carried out on the same visit as the service for landlords.
Yes, we service all makes and types, and we will be straight with you about its condition.
Yes. Added to a repair it costs £50 + VAT (£60 including VAT) and takes about half an hour.
The engineer explains it, notes it on the record and prices any repair before doing it. You decide whether to go ahead.
It can. Most manufacturers ask for a yearly service by a Gas Safe engineer, recorded in writing.
Longer for an old floor standing boiler or one wedged in a tight cupboard, shorter for a wall hung combi with room around it. We do not rush the checks to save time.
On a combi in hard water, often yes. We check whether one is fitted and working, and tell you honestly if adding one is worthwhile.
Yes, a written record with the combustion readings and any advice, every time.
Yes. Inhibitor levels and the condition of the system water are part of every service.
