HERTFORDSHIRE, BEDFORDSHIRE & CAMBRIDGESHIRE
A full annual boiler service in Stotfold for £99 + VAT (£118.80 including VAT), with the casing off, the flue gases tested and a written record left with you, carried out by our own Gas Safe engineers.

Every service we carry out in Stotfold works through the same list, whatever the make:
Outside first: the flue terminal, the flue route and the gas supply
Casing off: the combustion chamber and internal parts inspected
Burner: examined, cleaned where it needs it, ignition checked
Heat exchanger: checked for scale, corrosion and blockage
Condensate trap: emptied, cleaned and refilled, with the pipe checked
Seals and tests: case seals checked, flue gas analysis, safety devices tested
Once the case is back on, the boiler is fired on heating and on hot water to confirm it lights, runs and shuts down as it should. Then the engineer goes through what was found with you and answers any questions before leaving. Anything you have noticed since last winter, such as a new noise or a pressure drop, is worth mentioning at the start.
Get a fixed price before we start
Call and talk to an engineer, or send us the details and we will come back to you with a price.
The results go on a written service record that stays with you. It shows the boiler, the checks carried out, the combustion readings, any advice and the price of anything recommended, along with our Gas Safe registration, 956889.
Keep it with the boiler’s paperwork. It is your proof of servicing if you ever claim on the manufacturer’s warranty, and something a buyer’s surveyor may ask to see. A signature on a sticker is not the same thing. If you have lost earlier records, this one starts a clear run from today, which is still worth having.
The service is the check that finds a boiler burning badly before it becomes a carbon monoxide risk. Only a flue gas analysis shows how well it is burning, and worn seals can let fumes escape without any visible sign.
A clean burner and a heat exchanger free of deposits get more heat from the same gas, so bills are lower than they would be on a neglected boiler. A correctly set boiler also cycles on and off less, which spares its parts.
Boiler makers generally insist on a yearly Gas Safe service as a condition of their guarantee. On a newer boiler, that is often worth far more than the service fee.
A Stotfold annual service costs £99 + VAT (£118.80 including VAT), with no call-out fee on a weekday between 8am and 5pm. Combi, system or regular, the price does not change.
When one of our engineers is already with you for a repair, a service can be done alongside it for £50 + VAT (£60 including VAT), in roughly half an hour.
A service on its own usually takes about an hour. Clear the area around the boiler and a route to it, and make sure someone is home to hear what was found at the end.
Central Bedfordshire is supplied by Anglian Water and Affinity Water, and the supplier has not confirmed which zone covers Stotfold, so we do not quote a hardness number. The town’s water is generally reported as hard.
So we look at what your boiler shows us: deposits in the condensate trap, signs of restricted flow in the heat exchanger, and on a combi how quickly hot water arrives and whether its temperature holds steady.
For combis, the Building Regulations guidance draws the line at 200 mg/l, above which the feed should be treated. Where there is no scale protection on the cold main and we see scale building, we will explain whether fitting it is worth doing on your boiler. Where the trap is clean and the hot water steady, we say so, and you save the cost of treatment you do not need.
On Stotfold Park and Randall Fields, much of the heating pipework runs through floor screeds and behind plasterboard rather than being clipped to timber. That makes the service a useful early warning.
A small weep at the boiler connections, or a pressure reading that has crept down since last year, can point to a fitting leaking out of sight. It is far easier to deal with then than once it shows as a stain on a ceiling.
Fairfield Park was built in the early 2000s, so some of its boilers are original. An older boiler that is still sound is worth keeping serviced, and we will tell you honestly how it is wearing, what is likely to need attention next and whether that is worth doing.
Casing off, burner and heat exchanger inspected, flue gas readings taken, and a written record of what we found.
The converted hospital building at Fairfield Park holds around a hundred apartments, and flue routes there are longer than in a standard house. On a service we check that the flue is sound and clear along the part we can reach, and that its terminal is unobstructed.
If you live there, tell us where the boiler is and how to reach it when you book, including any shared access we need to arrange. The service itself is the same as in any house: casing off, combustion tested and a written record left with you.
Whether you let an apartment at Fairfield Park or a house on one of the newer estates, the annual gas safety check and record, the CP12, can be done on the same visit as the service.
It saves a second appointment with the tenant, and anything that needs attention is written up with a price. Our landlord gas safety certificate page has more on what is checked.
Booking the same month every year keeps the service and the gas safety record in step, so there is never a gap. If the tenant cannot be home, tell us when you book and we will agree a time with them directly.
No service record for more than a year
Pressure that has to be topped up between services
Sooty marks or staining on or around the casing
Banging, whistling or gurgling on start-up
Hot water that takes longer to arrive or runs hot and cold
Sooty marks, a lazy yellow flame or a carbon monoxide alarm going off need a Gas Safe engineer now rather than at the next service. Every home with a gas appliance should have a working CO alarm, and the service is a good moment to test yours. The quieter signs on the list are still worth mentioning when you book, so the engineer can look for the cause while the casing is already off.
Sometimes a service turns up a part near the end of its life, such as a weeping seal or a sensor furred with scale. You are shown the problem, it goes on the record, and a price follows. Nothing beyond the service is done without your agreement, and any repair carries our 12 month labour guarantee.
If something unsafe is found, the engineer must tell you and, with your permission, turn the appliance off until it is repaired. It is rare, and it is exactly what the visit is there to catch. If a part has to be ordered, you are told whether the boiler is safe to use until it arrives.

£99 + VAT (£118.80 including VAT) for a standard annual service.
Yes. It costs £50 + VAT (£60 including VAT) and adds around half an hour.
No, the gas safety check and record can be done during the same visit as the service.
The flue gases are measured with an analyser, and the flue and terminal are inspected to make sure they are sound and clear.
Once a year is still right, but hard water makes it more important not to skip one.
Check the warranty booklet. Some manufacturers set a window for it, and missing it can cost you the extended guarantee.
About an hour for most services.
A gas boiler service does not apply. Tell us when you book so we can confirm what is needed.
September or October, so anything found can be fixed before winter.
Yes, all the common makes, whoever fitted them. The checks and the record are the same.
No. There is no call-out fee between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Servicing covers the whole town, from the old core by Queen Street and Stotfold Common to Stotfold Park, Randall Fields and neighbouring Fairfield, and the rest of SG5 along the A507 from Stevenage. September and October are the months to book, before the heating runs every day and while a worn part can be replaced without leaving you cold.
We service all common makes, including the Vaillant, Ideal and Worcester Bosch boilers we fit. Homes heated by an air source heat pump, such as the flats at Elm House, do not need a gas boiler service, so tell us what heats your home when you book.
