Unvented Cylinder Installation and Repair

G3 QUALIFIED · UNVENTED CYLINDERS

An unvented cylinder gives you mains-pressure hot water at every tap, with no loft tank and no weak shower upstairs. We install, service and repair them across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

Why people move to unvented

  • Mains-pressure hot water at every outlet, so showers behave properly
  • No cold water tank in the loft, freeing the space and removing a freezing risk
  • Better performance for houses with more than one bathroom
  • Quieter, with no filling tank

What it needs to work properly

An unvented system is only as good as the incoming mains supply. If your flow rate is poor, a bigger cylinder will not fix it, and we would rather test that at survey than install something that disappoints you. We measure flow and pressure before recommending anything.

Servicing, which is not optional

An unvented cylinder holds stored water under pressure and has safety devices that must be checked annually. An unserviced unvented cylinder is a genuine safety matter, not just a warranty condition. We service what we install, and cylinders we did not install.

Common faults

  • Water discharging from the outside pipe, usually an expansion vessel or a failed valve
  • Fluctuating hot water temperature
  • Reduced pressure at the taps
  • Noise from the cylinder

Frequently asked questions

What is G3 and why does it matter?

It is the qualification required by Building Regulations to work on unvented hot water systems. Work by an unqualified person is a legal and safety issue.

Do unvented cylinders need servicing?

Yes, annually. They store water under pressure and the safety devices must be checked.

Will an unvented cylinder fix my weak shower?

Only if your incoming mains flow is good. We measure it before recommending anything.

Why is water dripping from the pipe outside?

Usually an expansion vessel that has lost its charge, or a failed valve. It needs looking at rather than ignoring.

Want it sorted properly?

If the fault keeps returning after a reset, it is telling you something is degrading rather than broken. Call 01462 506374 and we will diagnose it properly rather than swapping parts and hoping. Gas Safe registered 956889, 12 months on our own labour.
