How we price

Reactive work — repairs, leaks, blockages, breakdowns and diagnostics — is charged by time. You pay a first-hour rate, then in half-hour blocks after that. Nothing beyond the first hour happens without you knowing what it will cost.

Installations, bathrooms and air conditioning are not charged by the hour. Those are quoted as a fixed price in writing after a survey. See the section further down.

There is no call-out fee during these hours. The first hour is the first hour, not an attendance charge on top of one.

The call-out fee, plainly

• Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm: no call-out fee.
• Outside those hours: £50 + VAT (£60 including VAT) on every attendance, charged on top of the hourly rate.
• You are told the call-out applies, and what the hourly rate will be, on the phone before anyone sets off. It never appears for the first time on an invoice.

Overnight rates

9pm to 8am Monday to Friday, and 8pm to 8am at weekends. Most overnight jobs are resolved inside the first hour, which is why the first hour carries the weight and the half hours after it do not.

Boiler servicing

The second price is lower because the engineer, the van and the travel are already paid for by the repair. It takes about thirty minutes. If we are at your property anyway, ask.

Gas diagnostics and the £70 credit

A Gas Safe diagnostic is £150 + VAT (£180 including VAT), fixed. That covers the engineer attending, diagnosing the fault, and carrying out any minor work that needs no parts, up to one hour on site.

If the repair needs parts or more time than that, the engineer gives you a fixed price before doing anything further. If you go ahead with us on the same visit, £70 of the diagnostic comes off the repair. That credit applies to the same visit only.

Installations, bathrooms and air conditioning

Boiler installations, full bathrooms, central heating systems and air conditioning installations are not priced by the hour. We survey the job, then give you a fixed price in writing before anything is booked. The hourly rates above do not apply to that work.

On reactive call-outs we take 50% of the first hour up front rather than 50% of a total nobody can know yet.

Common questions

Do you charge a call-out fee?

Not between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. Outside those hours there is a £50 + VAT call-out on every attendance, and we tell you on the phone before anyone sets off.

What if the job takes less than an hour?

The first hour is the minimum charge. It covers the engineer, the van, the stock on it and the travel, all of which are spent whether the fix takes ten minutes or fifty.

Will the price change once you are here?

Not without you agreeing to it first. If a job turns out to be different from what was described on the phone, the engineer stops and gives you a price before continuing.

Are these prices the same across every town you cover?

Yes. The rates on this page apply everywhere we work, from Stevenage and Hitchin out across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and into Cambridgeshire.
