Where the Colne, the Chess and the Gade meet
Three rivers meet at Rickmansworth, the largest town in Three Rivers District, and the railway shaped the rest. The Metropolitan line arrived in 1887, and the council’s draft conservation appraisal records that by the late 1920s Metro-land building had expanded the town to house commuters. The Cedars Estate began at about 45 acres and had grown past 600 by the 1930s.
In the 2021 Census, purpose built flats made up 35.6% of households in the Rickmansworth Town ward, 74.2% of homes in Moor Park and Eastbury were detached, and nearly half in Penn and Mill End were semi-detached. The town centre and Croxley Green
The Rickmansworth conservation area runs along the High Street, Church Street, Bury Lane, Ebury Road, Talbot Road and Norfolk Road, with buildings from the fifteenth to the twentieth century. Croxley Green and Dickinson Square have their own conservation areas. A new flue, soil pipe or outdoor unit there is planned around the street front.
The Colne valley. The council’s 2026 flood risk assessment names the low-lying Colne valley, affecting Rickmansworth and Batchworth, as the district’s most extensive area of river flood risk, and puts Rickmansworth among the settlements at highest risk of groundwater flooding. Parking, skips and private roads. Where a job needs a bay held for the van, Three Rivers charges £35.50 per bay per day for a suspension, applied for at least 10 days ahead and not refundable. A skip on the road needs a Hertfordshire County Council licence, £54 for 14 days and £28 for each week after, and in a pay or permit street the parking office has to agree as well. On the Moor Park estate the roads belong to the estate company, so skips and materials stay off them and contractors’ vans park on the drive. Any fee lands on your quote as its own line.
