Vantage: Keeping you warm all winter
We appreciate that there is nothing worse than a sudden breakdown of your heating system. Even worse, they nearly always choose to go wrong when the weather is at its coldest. We hear many horror stories of clients who have been left in the cold after they have paid a tidy monthly subscription to their energy company. The whole point of paying this cover is to ensure they receive swift repair service should the worst happen. All too often we receive a call from such people who cannot wait the quoted eight or more days for an engineer to call. This is a bitter pill to swallow when you have paid for a service and still have to call a private heating engineer in to get the job done swiftly.
Staying in control
As mentioned above, the smart heating devices are very popular nowadays. People no longer want to heat their homes on a regular timer setting. These can waste energy and money if you have to work overtime, or decide to go out straight from work. These fantastic little devices can be operated from your smartphone and so you can control what rooms get heat, when and how much. Many people simply turn their heating on the minute they get in from work, but this leaves a considerable time lapse between a cold house and a warm one. So, ask us about smart thermostats and you’ll no longer have to guess when you are likely to be home from work.
What is Hive and Nest?
The switch to eco-friendly heating systems for your home has seen the recent introduction of smart thermostats. These clever little devices reduce energy wastage and make heating your home more convenient. Since 2011, the Nest thermostat, which incorporates Google technology, was without doubt, the most impressive and sought-after controller. However, the 2nd-generation Hive Active Heating manufactured by British Gas is proving to be a very good alternative.
Why Install Hive or Nest?
Smart thermostats give you the ability to heat your home from anywhere. Because they can be controlled over your broadband connection, you can alter the settings or turn your boiler on and off directly from your smartphone and that means before you’ve even left the office. Both Hive and Nest give you far more control over your heating preferences. You can heat individual rooms at different temperatures so you only heat the areas you are using. This helps reduce your energy bills considerably.
The thermostats also adapt to changes in temperature in relation to weather conditions outside. This avoids your house overheating on warm days or the pipes freezing over when the temperature drops suddenly in the winter months. Having the ability to see of how much energy you are using on your smartphone, enables you to take control of your energy bills with ease. This is after all, what smart thermostats are designed to do in the first place.
There is very little to choose between Nest and Hive when it comes to performance. Both of these intelligent thermostats seem to be neck and neck in the race to dominate the market. However, there are relevant differences between the two that could impact your choice, but we are happy to offer our un biased and professional opinion should you wish.
Heating your home does more than keep you warm
Keeping your home at a pretty even temperature will not only make your home more comfortable to live in, it will help prevent damp and mould and stop freezing and burst pipes. A cold house is often a damp house and furniture can suffer too. Dampness encourages bacteria and certain bugs such as fungus flies. These little black flies usually attack indoor plants because of the damp compost and they can be tricky to eradicate. Damp furniture can give them another home too.
Even wooden furniture can be affected. Lacquer can crack and wood can warp if too much humidity is present. Even your beloved guitar can be ruined if subjected to excessive damp. So, no matter what sort of heating you have, Vantage will be able to help you keep warm this winter.
